Why You Should Never Travel With A Broken Zipper

So I was in the middle of delivering my bags and as I was about to put the bag in the cart, the zipper snapped and the bag totally opened, sending this passengers clothes and belongings falling on the ground. As I was picking up her stuff I kept thinking,

“This passenger is going to think someone opened her bag on purpose and looked through her stuff.”

I picked all of her things up with the help of another agent and put them back in her suitcase, but if things were folded before they fell out they certainly weren’t when we put them all back and I felt badly about that but I had no choice. I didn’t have time to sit there and fold her clothes and I really didn’t want to touch someone’s clothes that I didn’t know.

I wish I could have taken a picture so you could see what I was dealing with but I was in a hurry, people were standing around and I just couldn’t pull it off. I wanted to write her a note to let her know what happened but of course I didn’t have a pen so…

The reason her bag busted open was because her zipper wasn’t working properly. There was one zipper with two fasteners and one of the fasteners had slipped which caused the zipper to break. I’m almost positive her suitcase was that way when she checked the bag. Why do I say that?  Because the only reason I know about the zipper was because I took the time to try and find out how to get her bag closed and I saw the busted fastener. I can’t stress enough how important it is to make sure your bags are in complete working order before you pack your bags.

There are many agents that simply don’t have the time to put all of your things back in your bag and many people would have just plopped the suitcase in the bin without trying to fix it (not because they don’t care, but because they are on time constraints). I know that’s not what you want to read but it’s true. So please, make sure that your suitcase is in proper order so that you won’t open up your luggage when you get to your destination and say, “OH NO! Someone has gone through my bag!” Cause I can’t imagine that would be a good feeling.
