When I was in Toronto a few months ago I had the pleasure of meeting Lola Akinmade Akerstrom who is an amazing photographer and such a lovely person. Have you ever met people who aren’t afraid to share their knowledge with you? We were all at breakfast and since everyone in our group hadn’t gotten there yet she took the time to explain shutter speed and aperture to me (I still have her hand written notes in my wallet). She was a presenter at TBEX Toronto so she runs with the big boys yet had no problem giving me an impromptu photography lesson.
Fast-forward a couple of days. We are walking down the street one afternoon when she all of a sudden stops and starts shooting away with her camera so I got out my camera and started shooting as well. I figured, “Hey, if Lola is snapping pictures, I’m going to start snapping pictures.” She then went on the explain a few more things about light and shadows, and really helped me with just a few minutes of her time. I love the juxtaposition of the buildings in this photo, and the sky was such a lovely shade of blue. I never would have noticed these buildings but thanks to Lola, I do a lot more looking up now when I’m taking pictures.
It’s a great picture!! I was lucky enough to have lunch with two of my favorite bloggers the other day (post coming soon) and one is a pro photographer. I’m a very good amateur…but I was beyond excited to learn how to use manual!!

Thanks! I haven’t stepped up to manual yet but I’ll get there soon. Thanks for commenting!
