Have you ever heard of Solvang, California? It’s a Danish inspired city about 45 minutes north of Santa Barbara, California. There are less than 6,000 people that live here but it’s a quaint and enjoyable city.
I took these pics as I was driving to San Francisco, we stopped here to stretch our legs for a bit and get something to eat. Solvang has lots of little restaurants and almost every building looks like something out of a fairy tale. If you want to stop here and eat, try one of these fab spots!

The Heidelberg Inn would be one of my choices if I was going to have a beer or a bite to eat. I am not a connoisseur of Danish or German food so I can’t vouch for its authenticity, but the ambiance is lovely and sometimes that is enough.
Solvang is one of those cities that you forget about until you are driving up or down highway 101 in California. Not because it isn’t special, but it is one of those places that is under the radar but it is really worth stopping to see it in its full charm. A week may be too long but a nice afternoon or a day or two walking around exploring the town would be a lovely way to spend your time. If you are in Los Angeles or Santa Barbara and want to get out of the city, why not drive up here and check it out?
