As you can see, I’m all packed and ready to go. If you saw my profile on johnnyjet.com you know I always carry Eagle Creek packing folders  when I travel.  I was supposed to be on a flight this afternoon to my exotic destination but guess what? I’m sick.

In fact, I feel like crap. Since I fly standby I have the luxury of changing my flights but I have already  paid for my airbnb apartment rental and I’m supposed to check in today (Monday). At this point, I’m not sure if I am going to be able to go and my cheapness is fighting with my sickness because the thought of losing money on my apartment rental doesn’t sit well with me.

However, I have to be practical. Airplanes are not the best places to be if you aren’t feeling well and I don’t want to get sicker. But then again, maybe I’ll be able to deal with the flight and get to my sunny island and be rejuvenated by the sun. You see my dilemma?

Since I know most of you that read my blog don’t work for an airline, what options do you have if you are sick and need to change plans?  Here are the travel changes for Delta, Southwest,  US Airways, Jet Blue, United, Lufthansa, and British Airways.

Of course there are many more airlines but these are the major ones I could think of in my sedated state. Also, travel insurance is a good way to protect yourself from paying for something you can’t use. I personally never buy it but it may be useful for you.

So what am I going to do? I canceled the apartment rental and hopefully I’ll get a 50% refund but at this point I almost don’t care. I’m sick and feel horrible, I just woke up from a 5 hour nap and just took some more meds so I will hopefully be sleeping again pretty soon.

If you get sick before a trip you have to decide what’s more important. And you also have to think about others as it’s really not fair to subject people to your germs. Only you can know how sick you are but I would suggest not traveling when you aren’t feeling well.

Have you ever gotten sick before a trip? Have you traveled when sick?
