We walked and walked some more and ended up in this park. It’s in the center of town, bordering the new part of Quito and the old part. There were lots of families hanging out together, and tons of kids everywhere. We were hungry and saw people eating from this one particular street vendor and it looked delicious. It was basically meat on a stick, either chicken or steak. We both just kind of looked at the cart for a while and watched everyone eating and no one seemed to be getting sick so we said, “Why not?” and bought a stick. It was $1.50 and DELICIOUS. We stood on the grass and ate that stick with gusto, and we didn’t get sick. We were giddy with excitement that we had lunch for $1.50.
We had a ball just walking around, looking at people and most of all, eating that meat!
TRAVEL TIP: Always make sure to carry hand wipes with you. Napkins are not plentiful nor are they strong so having your own wipes will come in handy. You never know when you may be eating meat on a stick in the park.
