The deciding factor for me traveling here to Ghana was the fact that they have beautiful beaches. I really had no idea there were beaches in Ghana and I was pleasantly surprised to find out and La Pleasure Beach is definitely one of them.
I went to La Pleasure Beach and couldn’t believe how warm and lovely the water was! When you get to this beach you have to pay a small fee to enter. That fee is good for the whole day and there is no limit as to how long you can stay.
I’m not sure if I told you this or not but I am a huge fan of the ocean. I could play and swim in the ocean all day long, especially when the water is warm. The water here was clean which is wonderful because don’t you hate it when you get into the ocean and trash is swimming around you? But thankfully that wasn’t an issue here and I happily let the warm ocean water wrap itself around me.
Would you expect to see horses on the shores of Ghana? There are horses all over the place and young boys and men give horseback rides to tourists for a fee.
Ghanaians are persistent, and they probably won’t take no for an answer unless you walk away. This man below was selling jewelry and we kept saying no but my mom finally agreed to buy something.
If you are walking around they may follow you (which is what happened with another young boy but I’ll save that for another time). Because I respect the hustle the persistence doesn’t bother me. If they were persistent about begging then that would be a different story but not one Ghanaian has begged. They are persistent, NOT aggressive and there is a huge difference. They sell their goods and work very hard so I can’t possibly be mad if someone is trying to get me to buy what they are selling.
The young guys who had the horses were very nice but I had no interest in riding a horse. I like them, I just didn’t feel like getting on a horse. But I kid you not, before I could get a no out of my mouth the guy had his hand around my waist and up I went on the horse! I was amazed at how quickly he was able to do that and I wasn’t mad at him or anything, I was in awe of how in a couple of seconds I was on a horse and just a few seconds before I said no.
The beach was clean and so was everyone on it. It was a lovely way to spend some time in the afternoon. Ghana rocks.
Do you enjoy the beach when you travel? Did you know there were beaches in Ghana?
Hahaha..Get your butt up on that horse!
Girl…I was so surprised! But it makes for a cool pic!
Sorry about the comparisons to Jamaica, but this happened to me at a local beach in Jamaica. I rode a horse and have the pictures to prove it.
No need to apologize, I understand making comparisons 🙂
