When I was visiting Buenos Aires, I kept hearing about La Boca, an area of town that I was told was not very good. I heard different things from different people ranging from telling me it was a very dangerous place and I shouldn’t go to it’s a beautiful place that is great as long as I go during the day.
Even though I had been given multiple warnings about the area, I was so glad I didn’t listen. It was so beautiful! The buildings are so colorful and bright and there were tango dancers in the streets and live music everywhere. I sat and had a coffee and just watched people for a while. I hate to think I would have missed out on seeing such a fascinating neighborhood because of other people’s fears. Have you ever seen buildings like this where you live?
I’m not sure how to feel about this baby doll…
Since I knew I was in an area that many people said was dangerous, I made sure that I went during the day and I was very careful about being aware of my surroundings. When I travel, I very rarely let what other people say about a place deter me from visiting. Everyone has different views and why would I let an experience of someone else stop me from making my own memories?
If you ever find yourself in Buenos Aires, I can’t recommend this area enough. Be vigilant and don’t wear your flashy jewelry or carry an expensive bag. No need to advertise that you have money (that’s what a fancy bag and jewelry says to someone who robs for a living). But by all means, spend sometime here during the day and soak up the atmosphere, you won’t be disappointed.
