Well, my travels have taken me all over the world but I have to say, even I’m surprised that I’m in Russia. I just never thought that I would make it here, it wasn’t on my list of places I had to see but the opportunity presented itself so here I am. A girlfriend and I are traveling here for 10 days and so far, we are having a fabulous time. I don’t have tons of time to explain right now, but I will soon be telling you all about the experiences I’m having over here. I will say, there are not many Black people here so I am getting tons of stares. That happens to me frequently when I travel to foreign places, some countries, believe it or not, just aren’t accustomed to seeing people who look like me. It doesn’t bother me, it comes with the territory, and people aren’t rude, they are just curious.
We rented an apartment through my favorite site, www.vrbo.com. I have used them several times and I have had wonderful results. Our apartment has two bedrooms and is right by the canals and walking distance to most of the main attractions in the city. Our place is on the 3rd floor with no elevator, and there is no air conditioning which isn’t a problem, we just open the windows. There has been an issue with the mosquitos, they seem to love feeding on my flesh but other than that, the place is great. When I was a Tour Director, I stayed in hotels all of the time and I really don’t like them. Staying in an apartment while on vacation gives my vacations such a better feel. It just seems as if I am really experiencing the city I’m in as the locals do, instead of being a tourist. I hope that makes sense.
This shot I took right at the end of our street. The water doesn’t smell or anything, thank goodness!
Street sign. Trying to figure these streets out has been a bit tricky!
I don’t know what they were advertising, I just thought the sign was cool since it was on the sidewalk.
We are headed out, but I will shortly tell you more about this trip. I hope you will enjoy seeing St. Petersburg and Moscow through my eyes!
