Earlier this evening I was walking to the grocery store to buy a few things for dinner. There are three of us sharing the apartment and two of us are here to support Pam who is competing in Ironman tomorrow. I had a taste for Moules Frites and had told my friends what I wanted before I left the apartment but I didn’t have anywhere in mind to get them. So as I’m walking I see the sign above then look and notice the ”restaurant” is attached to a sports center. Not the place you would think to eat seafood. On the way back from the grocery store I figure, hey, why not? So I stop and eat here. Boy oh boy am I glad I did.
I had all of this below for 12 euro, and that includes the glass of Rosé
Have you ever had Moules Frites? Simply delicious.
And they served them with this little bowl so I could clean my hands after eating.
But what was really great about this experience is that the ambiance totally changed in a matter of a few seconds. I arrived at the perfect time because almost as soon as my food was placed in front of me, some type of competition let out and the place was swarming with French people. The pic below is how it was when I got my food.
Then all of a sudden people started coming from everywhere and the balcony and inside of the cafe was packed.
This table was right next to me and they ordered the same thing I had because they said mine looked good. It was.
I think there was some kind of synchronized swimming competition because the girls in bathing suits had on lots of makeup and there hair was completely matted down and they had obviously been in the water because many of the girls came outside and their bodies and hair were still wet.
It was cool because I got to see French people just going about their lives, attending competitions for their daughters. I saw many parents with young children and was able to hear some of the things they were saying which is so helpful to me since I speak French to my niece.
This is one of the things I love about traveling, getting to experience things and see people in ways I never have before. I would have never guessed that I would have had such a fabulous meal at a sports complex, nor been given access to daily French living but I got both and I’m so glad I did.
