Did I tell you about the time I caused a terrorist threat in Paris?
Yep. Your Travel Guru caused streets to be blocked off, police to be called and the bomb squad was on their way. Let me explain how I got myself into this situation. Ready?
I was living in Paris at the time and needed to get a few things from my local store. I had a carry-on bag with me and put it next to the counter while I checked out. I left the store and hopped on the bus to my apartment. About 15 minutes later I realized I left my carry-on bag at the store so I hopped off the bus and caught the same line back to the store to retrieve my carry-on.
The bus driver stopped all of a sudden and said he couldn’t go any farther because there was a blockage and police were everywhere. So I got out and walked the rest of the way. I didn’t want anyone to steal my bag so I was concerned but not bothered. I put my glasses on, got off the bus and walked to the store.
As I got closer to the corner where the store was a police officer told me I couldn’t go any further. I told her I needed to get my bag from the store and she looked at me with disbelief.
The cop asked me, “You left a bag in the store? The bag is YOURS?” I told her it was and explained that I was in the store earlier and accidentally left my bag by the counter. She escorted me into the store, showed me the bag and I said, “That’s my bag!” The cops all started talking quickly (we were all speaking in French) and I assured them there was nothing in the bag. They asked me to open the bag which I did and I showed them that the bag was empty. They all looked really disgusted but relieved. I walked away quickly.
I felt really bad about it because the last thing I wanted to do was cause panic. I simply left my carry-on by accident. I was so embarrassed and just wanted to hide.
Thankfully this was before social media so there are no pics, tweets, or FB post about the girl who scared a shop owner, all the stores on a popular street and a bunch of police in Paris.
