Thanks to Home Entertainment for letting me and my friends watch A United Kingdom in exchange for writing this post in my own words!
Travel comes in all forms, there is no one size fits all. Sometimes you don’t have to leave your home to have a magnificent travel experience. How is that? Through the power of a movie.
I had the opportunity to watch A United Kingdom starring Rosamund Pike and David Oyelowo as the characters of Ruth Williams and Seretse Kham. They risked everything in order to live their lives together and weren’t afraid of the consequences of their forbidden love.
David Oyelowo is by far, one of the best actors working today. I won’t give anything away about the film but watching him on screen is delightful because he finds a way to give his all to the character without being sappy or overdone and exudes strong confidence in every word he speaks. Rosamund Pike hold her own next to such a giant and the two strike a lovely balance and are a joy to watch onscreen.
It’s always fun to watch a movie with friends, and for this movie celebrating interracial love I thought having a black and white theme was appropriate! All the food, decorations (and even my friends!) were black and white.
When you watch a movie with a theme, it can be fun to make sure the food and the environment are in harmony with the movie. By having things black and white, It added fun to the setting and also helped us all appreciate the friendships and love we are able to enjoy freely.
Gotta have dessert when you watch a movie that has you in your feelings!
Of course Smore’s! The perfect combination of black and white…just like the film!
This movie will make you think, it will make you angry, and it will make you grateful. It’s a film that will transport you back to a time you will probably be grateful you don’t live in and will have you rooting for love all the way through.
