When in Paris, this is the type of menu you should be looking for when you want to eat. A menu that is hand written lets you know that there is authentic French cuisine served in the restaurant. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that if the restaurant doesn’t have a menu like this then that means it doesn’t have good food. But usually when you see this type of menu there isn’t a sign that says “English spoken here” and I personally avoid those places like the plague.
This menu above is actually the wine menu and not a food menu but there are restaurants that do have their menu selections on a board like this, or sometimes the chalkboard menus can be on the tables. Either way, there are so many wonderful options for food in Paris, you should never have a bad meal. I find that I get my best meals when I go to smaller restaurants that are off the beaten path or restaurants that are really small and only have a few tables. They tend to have one menu that the waiter brings around to the table for you to see. Here are more examples:
Just curious, why do avoid the restaurants that say “English spoken here?”
I will write a blog post about it, thanks for asking!
