If you are heading to Paris and are looking for some non-touristy things to do, check out the canals. I can’t understand why more people don’t go and see these because they are absolutely lovely. They are located in the 10th arrondissement and are easily accessible by metro.

You can start at one end and walk up and down, looking at all the lovely scenery along the way. Of course there are cafes and shops along the canals as well as ample walking areas for you to enjoy a nice stroll.

The canals actually transport boats! It’s not just scenery. the canals are used and I was able to see a boat go through the locks while I was there. Now don’t ask meow the locks work because you know I don’t know. But I do know that it was cool to see the boat sink down as the water seeped out in order for it to make it through the narrow canal.

I’ve even seen people having picnics along the banks of the canals so that’s also an option. The canals are an area that I often visit when I go back to Paris because it’s truly a wonderful place to just wander.

Have you been to Paris? Is it somewhere you want to visit?
